DESCRIPTION: A beautiful example of a fine grained Quartzite blade from the deserts of the Sahara, North Africa.  It dates from the Early Neolithic and possibly from the El Adam or El Nabta type cultures (10,000 years ago).  This artifact was surface collected in the 1950's by an oil exploration scientist in remote regions of the Central Sahara, and examined by the Peabody Museum. This blade is tan colored with light red undertones with an almond shape.  It measures 49mm by 28mm, is very thin, and is in pristine Neolithic condition with excellent retouches on both leading edges.

DESCRIPTION: This rare sickle from the deserts of the Sahara, North Africa, dates from the Early Neolithic.  Sickle blades were used to cut grasses and process grains in the African Sahara Desert, dating back at least 10,000 years.  This artifact was surface collected in the 1950's by an oil exploration scientist in remote regions of the Central Sahara, and examined by the Peabody Museum. The sickle is caramel colored with light orange colored banding.  It has a fine grain sugar texture.  It measures 61mm by 32mm, nice and large and extremely thin. It is in perfect condition.

DESCRIPTION: A nice example of a fine to medium grained Quartzite leaf blade from the Sahara desert, North Africa.  It dates from the Late Neolithic (6,500 years ago).  This artifact was surface collected in the 1950's by an oil exploration scientist in remote regions of the Central Sahara, and examined by the Peabody Museum. This blade is chocolate brown colored and measures 59mm by 25mm and 8mm wide. It has two notches near the top of the point along with fine retouched along the perimeter of the piece.  This artifact shows no signs of modern damage as evident by the even patina on all flake scars.

DESCRIPTION: A beautiful large example of a Medium grained Quartzite blade from the deserts of the Sahara, North Africa.  It dates from the Early Neolithic and possibly from the El Adam or El Nabta type cultures (10,000 years ago).  This artifact was surface collected in the 1950's by an oil exploration scientist in remote regions of the Central Sahara, and examined by the Peabody Museum. This large blade has rosy-caramel color with a medium grain texture.  It measures 88mm by 33mm, and is in excellent condition with a perfect point, fine retouches on the upper portion of the blade and larger flake scars on the tapered base endThis may indicate that it was hafted to a shaft as a spear point.
