DESCRIPTION:
Mousterian Knife

This artifact is a
Mousterian Aged Knife and is made from a light tan flint, with a heavy cream colored old patina. This
artifact was fashioned via the Levallois technique as evident by the
flake scaring pattern. There are three major parallel flake scars running the length of this artifact. It has
some fine retouches on the distal end creating a small rounded
edge. There are a few areas of Crustose lichen growth
present on this piece. This piece measures 61mm by 24mm.
The workmanship is very fine. This Mousterian Knife dates
to the Paleolithic Mousterian period about 60,000 to 40,000 B.C.
This artifact is a surface find from the areas around the Danube
River in the Fränkische Alb, located in Southern Germany.

Mousterian Curved Scraper

This
interesting artifact is a Mousterian Aged Curved Scraper and is
made from a light tan flint, with a heavy cream colored old patina with
a slight peach colored under tone. This artifact was modified from
a Levallois flake. There are high angle retouches on the right hand side
of the distal end. This artifact shows definite signs of utilization
with the retouches being worn down. There are a multiple areas of
Crustose lichen growth present on this piece. This
artifact measures 68mm by 32mm.
The workmanship is fine. This Mousterian Curved Scraper
dates to the Paleolithic Mousterian period about 60,000 to 40,000 B.C.

Mousterian Bilateral Scraper

This artifact is a
Mousterian Aged Bilateral Scraper (meaning two edges) and is made
from a light tan flint, with a heavy cream colored old patina with a
slight peach colored under tone. This artifact was fashioned via
the Levallois technique as evident by the flake scaring pattern. There
are two major parallel flake scars running the length of this artifact,
with fine retouches on both cutting edges. It also has some fine
retouches on the proximal end creating a small rounded edge. There
is a small bulb of
percussion on the ventral surface at the proximal end which is
the narrow end of this artifact (the bulb of percussion
is usually on the opposite end). This artifact shows definite
signs of utilization with the retouches being worn down. There are a
multiple areas of Crustose lichen growth present on this
piece. This artifact measures 68mm by 35mm.
The workmanship is fine. This Mousterian Bilateral Scraper
dates to the Paleolithic Mousterian period about 60,000 to 40,000 B.C.

the distal tip. There
is a prominent bulb of
percussion on the ventral surface at the proximal end.
This artifact shows definite signs of utilization with the retouches

of Crustose lichen growth present on this piece.
This artifact measures 77mm by 26mm.

Mousterian Core Tool

This larger artifact is a Mousterian Aged Core Tool and is made
from a light tan flint, with a heavy cream colored old patina with a
slight peach colored under tone, and with a small crystal intrusion. This
artifact was modified from a large Levallois flake. There are large
sized retouches on the distal end. This artifact has multiple areas of
Crustose lichen and Foliose lichen growth present.
This artifact measures 91mm by 52mm
and 28mm at the thickest point.
This piece could have functioned as a simplistic Hand Axe. This
Mousterian Core Tool dates to the Paleolithic Mousterian period
about 60,000 to 40,000 B.C.
This artifact was a field find as evident with the plow marks on
the ventral side and was found in the areas around the Danube River in
the Fränkische Alb, located in Southern Germany.

Mousterian Burin

interesting artifact is a Mousterian Aged Burin and is made from
a light tan flint, with a heavy cream colored old patina with a slight
peach colored under tone. This artifact was modified from a flake.
There are high angle retouches on the dorsal surface near the ancient
blunt tip. This artifact shows signs of utilization. There is cortex
covering about 20 percent of the distal end. A bulb of
percussion on the ventral surface at the proximal end is visible.
There are a multiple areas of Foliose lichen growth
present on the ventral surface. This artifact measures 68mm by
38mm.
The workmanship is fine. This Mousterian Burin dates to
the Paleolithic Mousterian period about 60,000 to 40,000 B.C.
